On a crisp, cloudy November afternoon, we wandered the trails of our own Skagit Highlands neighborhood with our dear friends and neighbors, the Radon family. Pattee, Matt, and their boys—Sam + Toby—brought all the joyful, leaf-tossing energy we could ask for in a fall family session. This wasn’t our first time photographing them, and it certainly won’t be the last. Every time, they remind us how much fun it is to photograph families who truly love being together.

We’ve known the Radons for years, and it’s been such a gift to watch Sam and Toby grow up. Sam and our daughter Odette are close friends, and we always look forward to those rare (but treasured) game nights with Pattee and Matt. Their warmth, humor, and openness shine through in every photo, and this session was no different.

From the moment we hit the trail, the energy was pure joy. The boys ran wild—laughing, leaping, and launching handfuls of crisp, autumn-colored leaves into the air while their parents joined in with huge smiles. There’s something magical about a family who isn’t afraid to play, and the Radons always bring that energu in full.

Visually, the session was everything we love about fall. Rust-colored outfits on Pattee and Toby paired perfectly with Matt’s earthy green and Sam’s neutral tones. Against the backdrop of golden leaves and soft, cloudy skies, the colors came alive. The trails were blanketed in fallen leaves, and we loved capturing the motion and fun of everyone tossing them up and watching them flutter back down.

These images feel extra special to us—not just because they’re beautiful, but because they tell a story of connection. We’re not just photographing clients—we’re documenting the lives of people we care about, in a place we all call home.

We’re so grateful for the chance to photograph the Radons again and capture this chapter in their family’s story. Watching the boys grow, laugh, and play through the seasons has been such a joy. We can’t wait for the next session (and the next game night!).
